Arctic Circle

The sculpture of The Arctic circle contains all the geography, land and sea, within the arctic circle. It is a sculpture of the interior bathymetry of the ocean floor, a world that is mostly known by the submariners. The sculpture imagines and envisages the arctic ocean in a future devoid of sea ice and minus the ice cap that encompasses the north pole. The pale lines that are suspended above the sculpture relate to the shrinking ice mass since the 1980s. The Lilac colored line shows the ice pack extent in 1981, the pale blue line is from 2007 and the yellow line reveals the extent of the shrinkage by 2012. Some current projections show the arctic to be completely ice free by between 2020 and 2050.
