Past, present, future
Vishnu the preserver, the restorer of cosmic order, the supreme being for the transformation of the universe comes on earth in nine forms (avatars). Here, he is imaginatively fused with four symbolic depictions of the Christian God by Durer. The resulting hybridized image is one in which the two Gods look back and forth through each other. The multiple sight lines of Vishnu’s omniscient gaze connect to all points of serenity past, present and future.
